The purpose of these Blogs is to inform our readers and potential patients of the causes and symptoms of Vein Disease. We will attempt to explain and answer your questions as well as introduce our readers to the wonderful staff at The Vein & Cosmetic Clinic of Washington.
“Our Amazing Veins”
What is the venous system? In the human body the venous system drains into the right atrium of the heart. Simply put the veins in our body return deoxygenated blood to the heart. Every day our Amazing veins transport 7000 liters of blood back to the heart to be re-oxygenated.
The walls of the veins are thinner than artery walls, since the venous pressure is much less when returning blood to the heart. In the lower extremities our veins have valves which help reduce back flow of blood when returning to the heart.
It is when these veins become dilated and the valves become incompetent that the symptoms and visual signs begin to occur. They may be subtle at first but, over the years progress and become more noticeable. This is what is known as Venous Insufficiency.
If you ever feel like your vein health may be off track, call (301) 270-8346. Dr. Samir Neimat is top in the industry, and will help you get your vein health back to where it should be.
